i’ve only seen two of the five best picture nominees. thankfully sweeney todd didn’t get nominated. is it just me or did that movie really blow?
- no country for old men lived up to all of my expectations. seriously. the coens as i love them have returned. tommy two-face should have been nominated for this instead of whatever he was actually nominated for, totally. so goddamn soulful.
- atonement made me tear up a bit. maybe the romantic in me hasn’t died completely? it also had the best extended take i’ve seen since the player, if not fuckin’ touch of evil.
- i could care less about michael clayton and i should probably go see juno at some point. and i’m almost positive that p.t. anderson, daniel-day and johnny greenwood will completely blow my mind when there will be blood finally gets a wide release.
on the other categories:
- strider was pretty amazing in eastern promises. i mean, if anything, it takes courage to do a naked fight scene.
- i haven’t seen persepolis yet, but i can already tell that i’ll be upset if it doesn’t win best animated feature.
- why the fuck haven’t i seen i’m not there yet?
- no “it’s hard out here for a pimp”-level exciting nominees for the best song category. maybe three six just made the old boys at the academy pull their collars too hard?
also, rest in peace heath ledger. 10 things i hate about you jokes aside, he was a damn fine actor.
